Manchester United have the opportunity to go clear at the top this weekend, having by far the easiest challenge to face. While United enjoy a home game, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City all face away games. Bolton and Spurs have the chance to challenge for fifth with home games as well. United could find themselves three clear of Chelsea and five clear of the rest of the pack with Bolton and Spurs biting at their heels. While bookmakers still have Chelsea an easy 5/4 favourite to take this year’s title, that could all change by the time the weekend’s over.
Arsenal open the weekend traveling away to Villa in the early game. Villa have not been firing that well over the last month or so, however, at home they are always dangerous. Online bookmakers are cautious of this game, making Arsenal conservative favourites at 5/4. Villa are 13/5 with the draw a popular pick at 12/5. The draw looks to be a likely result here but we’re sticking our heads out and predicting a Villa win.
Manchester United can relax a little at home as they host middle-of-the-table Blackburn. The Rovers have been dangerous at times this season but it’s hard to see them causing United too many problems. Bookmakers have United at 2/7 with Blackburn at 12/1 and the draw at 5/1 – United to win with ease.
While United are hosting Blackburn, rivals Manchester City are off to the Cauldron to take on Stoke. Once again, bookmakers are a little cautious with this game, quoting City at 5/4, Stoke at 12/5, and the draw a fraction shorter at 23/10. Stoke are not as dominant at home this season and with odds in black, City could be good value – our tip, Manchester City in a close game.
Chelsea travel to Newcastle on Sunday in what could be a telling game for them. Newcastle have been hard to predict this season. They have taken it to the best of them then faltered against weaker opposition. They are at home this weekend where they are at their most dangerous. Online bookmakers have Chelsea short favourites at 3/4 with Newcastle at 9/2 and the draw at 11/4. Chelsea have not won their last three league games and look a little fragile at present. We’re tipping a draw at good value.
