Weekend Football Betting – Have The Gunners Spent Their Pennies?

This weekend’s football looks rather pedestrian with only one or two matches really standing out as decent betting options. Of course, what looks to be an obvious result doesn’t always pan out as we saw last weekend. Arsenal’s betting odds are well under following their mauling of Braga mid-week in the Champions League, however, you have to wonder if they haven’t spent their pennies already – six nil is a mauling, but they are away to Sunderland this weekend, not an easy ask.

The Gunners have been quoted at 7/10 in early betting with Sunderland out to 9/2. The home side have played well this season and while there is a gulf between the two sides when it comes to quality players, that often counts for nought when it comes game day. Arsenal struggled last season when coming off mid-week games so we’re tipping the draw at 11/2.

Another game that could be interesting is that between West Bromwich and Birmingham. West Brom are at home and online bookmakers have made them favourites at 11/8. The visitors are well priced at 9/4 with a draw firm at 5/2. Birmingham are playing well this season and may be a little too good for the home side. We’re tipping a win for the visitors.

The other games on Saturday should go to the home sides, all of whom are favourites to win. On Sunday, we have Manchester United up against Liverpool. United seem to be struggling a little while Liverpool – well, they are struggling a lot. Liverpool can’t remember where the goals are and if you don’t score you can’t win. We’ll go for the home side, they at least know where the goals are.

Of the remaining two games, Chelsea at home should have little difficulty with Blackpool while Wigan at home may make life difficult for Manchester City. Wigan are 9/2 with City firm favourites at 5/6. We’ll predict another draw here at the good odds of 11/4.
