Vettel Claims Yet Another Formula One Pole

Sebastian Vettel has claimed yet another Formula One pole position – his ninth from twelve races this season. He has also been posted as the short-priced favourite to win today’s Belgian Grand Prix. While pole does provide some advantages, it doesn’t always lead to a race win as Vettel has discovered in recent races, having won only one of his last five starts. In fact, the real danger could come from Lewis Hamilton who will start from position two and Vettel’s team mate, Mark Webber, who will start from three.

Hamilton’s second place on the grid is quite a feat considered he clocked such a good time with a car put together with gaffer tape. If his mechanics can put the car together a little more solidly, he should be in a better position to challenge for the early lead. Webber is notoriously slow at the start, but he certainly knows how to come from behind for strong finishes.

The weather will play a big part in today’s race with showers forecast throughout the day. You can expect drivers to be in and out of the pits frequently as they switch between wet and dry tyres. Bookmakers have Vettel at 17/10 to win ahead of Hamilton at 2/1 and Webber at 6/1.

Jensen Button had a disappointing qualifying run and will start from 13, but don’t discount him – he’s a good wet weather driver and, like Webber, races well from behind. Our tips – Hamilton to win from Webber and Button. Don’t be surprised if Vettel doesn’t finish. He is becoming a good driver in the wet, but he still has his problems.
