Top Four Dominate Wimbledon Betting

One of the oldest tennis events on the professional calendar hits off today as all the big names assemble at Wimbledon. Federer is looking to build on his impressive record while Nadal is looking to haul in Federer’s claim on the title. Waiting in the wings are Novak Djokovic, the only player to defeat the top two this year, and Andy Murray, the local hero who is fresh from victory in the Queens Tournament, the traditional lead up event to Wimbledon.

It is really difficult to see anyone outside of those four winning this year’s event. Djokovic had taken all before him until the French Open where he finally succumbed to his first defeat for the year. Back on grass, he will definitely be a big threat. Andy Murray has the home crowd support and he appears to be a lot more confident this year. Add to that Federer’s age, and Nadal’s injury prone form this year, and the winner could come from anyone in that group – and bookmakers agree.

Surprisingly, Roger Federer is the outright favourite at 23/10, marginally ahead of Rafael Nadal at 27/10. Djokovic is next best at 4/1 while Murray rounds out the top four at 6/1. The next best is Juan Martin Del Potro who is right out the back at 66/1. It’s far too early to be making rash selections in outright Wimbledon betting, however, there are several matches over the first few days that could spring some surprise results.

The betting interest could come early on day one with Gilles Muller at 4/5 playing Tommy Haas at 6/5. We like Haas to cause a minor upset in this match and 6/5 are good odds. Later in the afternoon, Marin Cilic at 3/4 takes on Ivan Ljubicic and, at 5/4, he too could spring a minor surprise. We could finish the day with a winner too, and see the first seed eliminated as Fernando Verdasco (8/13) plays Radek Stepanek (6/4). Stepanek has played well in recent months and could unseat Verdasco early on.

Keep coming back if you want to stay up to date with the latest in Wimbledon betting along with some good value tips – we hate picking favourites. We look for value.
