Is It Time To Consider Woods Again – Bookmakers Do

Bookmakers are quite keen on Tiger Woods actually winning another tournament and they think that opportunity is this weekend in Miami at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. Woods is up against a fairly good field that includes current world number one, Martin Kaymer and former number one Lee Westwood. Add to the mix players like Phil Mickelson and Graeme Mcdowell and the task is going to be tough.

Woods is starting to show some signs of his former self. In his last couple of tournaments he put in three good days and one shocker, often the last day – if he can put together four good days then look out. Bookmakers have Woods as second favourite although his odds vary from 10/1 to 13/1. Kaymer will go into the event as favourite with odds ranging from 6/1 out to 8/1 depending on which online bookmakers you visit. Interestingly, Kaymer’s and Woods’ odds are much shorter on the betting exchanges, perhaps because punters are keen to bet against them.

McDowell is third favourite at 16/1, just ahead of Mickelson at 18/1, while Westwood is unwanted at 25/1 or better. If you’re looking for value, then players such as Aaron Baddeley (50/1), Luke Donald (25/1), and Retief Goosen (50/1) are all in reasonably good form and could figure in the finish without surprising. Donald won the match-play championship last time out defeating Martin Kaymer.

This will be an interesting event as the course tests golfers’ all around abilities. If Woods can keep it together, then he will be well suited here whereas Kaymer doesn’t have a great record on US soil – his three starts in the US Masters have seen him miss the cut on all three occasions and not seeing out the weekend. Our tip: Woods from Goosen and Donald.
