Tiger Woods has waited until the last major tournament of the year to finally find some form – and he’s done it with style. At the halfway mark of the Chevron World Challenge Woods leads by four strokes from Irishman Graeme McDowell. This is the first event where Woods has topped the leaderboard since the Australian Masters over 12 monthes ago.
Confidence is definitely his key and it was very evident on day 2. After leading the first round by two shots, Woods came out today in an attacking mood and it paid almost immediate dividends with an eagle on the second hole. What was more impressive was his lack of bogeys. If he can hold that confidence over the last two days he will be hard to beat.
Online bookmakers have shortened his betting odds drastically to 1/3 to win with McDowell the only other player under double figures at 9/1. Rory McIlroy is next best at 12/1. If you want to back Woods for a top five finish, be prepared for short odds – bookies have him at 1/100.
On the other side of the world, newly crowned world number 1 Lee Westwood returned a brilliant 8 under par second round to storm into a three shot lead in the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Ross Fisher heads the chasers in the seconds place three shots clear of a group that includes Padraig Harrington and Miguel Angel Jimenez.
Westwood started the tournament as favourite and following his second round is now into 1/3 with online bookmakers. Fisher is next best at 6/1 while the rest of the pack is headed by Jimenez at 80/1. If you’re looking to get a return on either of these two, I suggest you pair them to win – you may even get 4/6 for that bet.
