As the men’s tennis season winds down we are starting to see cracks appearing in their games. Nadal is already a scratching from next week’s Paris Masters and Andy Murray was a late scratching from this week’s indoor event in Basel. You know that tennis betting is becoming harder when bookmakers make the ‘any other player’ option third favourite in an event.
Bookmakers have world number 1 Novak Djokovic as the 4/6 favourite ahead of Roger Federer at 5/2 and ‘any other player’ at 14/1. Andy Roddick is at 25/1 and could be worth some thought in this event. Federer has struggled in the second half of this year and he struggled a little in his last match. Djokovic has been in superb form this year, but injury is starting to take it’s toll on him too. Roddick looks to be an interesting bet at those odds.
While that group are playing in Switzerland, the second tier players are doing battle in Valencia. This event promises to offer more for punters with David Ferrer quoted at 7/4 favourite, Juan Martin Del Potro at 11/5 and Gael Monfils at 5/1. Juan Carlos Ferrero at 14/1 and Nikolay Davydenko at 16/1 are also well worth looking at.
This is the time of year when we see a lot of surprise upsets in tennis. I like the way Davydenko is playing at the 16/1 on offer is certainly good value. If del Potro’s serve is on fire then he will be hard to beat and at 11/5, is certainly worth a wager. It’s tough time of year for tennis betting, but our tips for this weekend are Andy Roddick and Nikolay Davydenko – now that would make a handsome double.
