Sri Lanka have had an up and down tour of England to date. They lost the test series although they did put up several strong performances. They then came out and really whipped England in the only Twenty20 game for the tour. They then lost the first one day international, but that was as much a problem of the weather and the reduced overs than their form.
It should be remembered that three months ago Sri Lanka hammered England in the quarter final of the one day world cup – a game that I’m sure is still sitting in the minds of English team. Today’s second one day international will, hopefully, be played under better conditions. Rain can really disadvantage the team batting second as we saw in match one.
Bookmakers are sticking by the home team, and home ground advantage can play a big role at this level. Online bookmakers have England at 4/6 to win with Sri Lanka close up at 10/7. In series outright betting, England are short 3/10 favourites with Sri Lanka 5/2 and a drawn series 12/1.
Correct score betting is keen with England winning 3-2 at 2/1, England winning 4-1 at 9/4 and a Sri Lanka victory 3-2 at 10/3. Other permutations are 9/2 or longer. Sri Lanka winning 3-2 is well priced – however, you would think they would need a victory today to achieve that, and their odds of 10/7 for a victory today are appealing.
We’re tipping Sri Lanka to fight back and score a victory today while in outright series betting, but we’re tipping England to win 3-2 at the good odds of 2/1.
