Red Bull Dominate Spanish F1 Grand Prix

Today’s Formula 1 Grand Prix in Spain looks to be a one act affair as the cars from the Red Bull team totally dominated qualifying. Just to make life a little more interesting, rather than Sebastian Vettel claiming yet another pole position, it was his team mate and last year’s winner of this race, Mark Webber, who put in the fastest times. Vettel was second with daylight a long way third.

In Formula 1 betting, Webber is 5/4 favourite to win today’s event, marginally ahead of teammate Vettel at 6/4. The next best is Lewis Hamilton at 9/1 and Fernando Alonso at 10/1. It will be a shame if this race turns into a procession – it will be a travesty to punters if Red Bull order Webber to let Vettel through to win – it has been done in the past.

Vettel currently leads the Drivers Championship by 39 points and a good win today with Webber second would see Vettel further extend that lead. Red Bull claim to not favour one driver over another, however, we witnessed the attempted pulling back of Webber last year in a race that is famous for the two drivers colliding with each other – a comical event at the best of times, a travesty for punters who are trying to bet on a fair outcome.

Who will win this year? Vettel is by far the better driver this season – he seems to be improving with every race. Webber is getting old for this sport, however, he is still driven to win. The longer this race goes, the more I would favour Vettel. At 6/4, he is better value than Webber, however, the best bet may be to bracket the two for a 1-2 podium finish. Vettel to win from Webber with Jensen Button third.
