Chelsea have continued on with their crazy form succumbing at home to Arsenal in a 3-5 goal feast. This leaves Chelsea in equal third place on 19 points in the English Premiership ladder, with Newcastle also on 19 and Liverpool a point behind on 18. Chelsea have a tough fortnight ahead as they travel to Blackburn next week then host Liverpool the following week.
Newcastle travel to Stoke tomorrow to complete the weekend’s round and they take with them the added incentive of clear third place on the Premier League table if they draw or win. They still have an unbeaten Premier League record this season and will be looking to maintain that as well. Bookmakers have Stoke the favourites in Premier League betting at 6/5 with Newcastle at 11/4 and the draw a respectable 23/10. Stoke are no longer the masters at home so Newcastle will fancy their chances of bringing away three points. They host Everton next week and given Chelsea’s form and draw, could extend their table lead on the former champions to five – if they win against Stoke.
We’re taking the safe approach and backing the draw. It’s good value, and we know that if push comes to shove, Newcastle will be happy to come away with a point – it gives them clear third and maintains their unbeaten run.
Today’s game should be a no-brainer with Spurs hosting Queens Park Rangers. However, these games are rarely as simple as that. QPR have been fighters so far this season and not the easy beats that many assumed. Spurs, although sixth on the Premier League table, have been a little inconsistent at times. Bookmakers have Spurs at 2/5 to win with QPR at 8/1 and the draw 4/1.
We’ll tip Spurs, however, this game could be closer than many assume. If you’re betting on the handicap markets, then QPR look well placed and could be worth backing. A win will lift Spurs to equal third on the table on 19 points making for a tight fights for the minor positions. We’re in for an interesting few weeks of football
