Online Poker – Playing The Tournaments To Win

Online poker can be a lot of fun, especially if you treat it as a form of entertainment. Once you become accustomed to game play and start to win as many hands as you lose, you may want to consider playing in some of the tournaments. These can be a low cost way of enjoying a lot of action.

Tournaments have a buy in-price and once you buy in, you join a table where everyone has the same number of chips to start. The difference between tournament games and general games is that it is a progressive game. If you are the last person standing on your table, you then move to the next table, which is made up of table winners just like you.

The aim of tournament play is to get to the last table. You are assured a decent payout from this table, no matter where you finish. Some tournaments have prize money that is in the tens of thousands to the winner. Eighth place (or last on the final table) will often pay in the hundreds – that’s not bad for maybe a fifty pound buy in.

Like all forms of gambling, there is a strong chance you are the first eliminated from the very first table. A quick way to lose your fifty pounds if you’re playing in a high value tournament. Generally speaking, players that are cautious initially give themselves the best chance of succeeding. You will get those that are a little crazy, going all in on the first hand in the hope of winning and wiping out two or three players at once. It can deliver good results, but unless you have a great hand, the best move is to fold and not play into their scheme.

Online poker tournaments can deliver hours of play for a relatively low cost, especially when compared to many other forms of entertainment. Play to win rather than follow the crazy players and you never know, you could wind up on that last table playing for really big stakes.
