MOTO GP Betting – Racing Subdued Following On Track Death

Motor sport is dangerous – just look at some of the casualties over the years and there was probably none bigger than that of Ayrton Senna. Last time out it was MOTO GP mourning the death of a favourite young star following the horrendous accident of Marco Simoncelli. Today’s race comes from Valencia and judging by the qualifying times, riders were not running on full throttle. Once the starter says “go” today, the story may well be different; after all, racing is in the blood of these guys, that’s what they do best.

Casey Stoner has already wrapped up the rider’s championship so today’s race is more about prestige than anything else. For younger riders, being able to finish the season claiming a victory over the world champion will look good on their resume, and for their confidence next season. Stoner will start from pole and bookmakers have made him the 1/2 favourite in MOTO GP betting to win yet again. Dani Pedrosa was a full second behind Stoner in qualifying and will start from two with Ben Spies grabbing third. Pedrosa is 15/4 in betting with Spies and the rest of the field at 20/1 or longer.

This is a dangerous race to bet on in a way. The season is over when it comes to points scoring so none of the more experienced riders will risk life and limb for a somewhat meaningless victory. This could open the door for other riders to make their mark. This was evident in qualifying with riders like Spies able to grab a good grid position. In fact, Ben Spies is our tip to take this race – certainly better value than Stoner.

In special bets, look for a big show from Valentino Rossi. We’re tipping him to take out fastest lap at 4/1. Nicky Hayden is another rider that could surprise at odds. We’re tipping him for a top three finish at 6/1. It will be a sad day for MOTO GP today as they wrap up the season – however, motor sport is a dangerous sport, and that’s the one thing that every rider accepts when they get on that start grid.
