The World Cup is rapidly heading towards the quarter finals stage and with the last World Cup finalists already eliminated, the stage seems to be set for yet another South American win. France and Italy’s elimination were predictable. Gone too are England and USA leaving Germany as the lone representative at this point. The Netherlands should join them after today’s games, but then they will have to face either Brazil or Chile.
The latest World Cup betting odds have Brazil as favourites at 7/2 just ahead of Argentina at 4/1. Spain are on the third line at 5/1 with Netherlands and Germany at 7/1.
We are well on track for a Brazil – Argentina final at this stage. Argentina will play Germany in the quarter final and if successful, play either Ghana or Uruguay in the semi final. Brazil will most likely meet the Netherlands in the quarter final then Spain in the semi final. Of course, being a World Cup, it’s quite possible that Germany could meet the Netherlands in the final – now that would be a surprise result, and one that most online bookmakers would cheer.
The refereeing to date has been abysmal with their decisions affecting the outcomes of many of the games. Hopefully, the better quality referees will be placed in charge of the remaining games. There’s nothing worse than losing your money because of a poor referee’s decision, especially when goals are hard to come by.
For trivia buffs, or for those that like to bet on the spreads, this has been the lowest scoring World Cup in history with the average number of goals per game just tipping over two a game. The previous lowest was 2.5 per game. Don’t expect to see any huge scores in these finals; in fact, once we get to the semi finals, the betting odds on draws could be the best value. Our tip – Germany to win.
