It’s crunch time for several teams this weekend, a weekend that could make or break many teams. Betting odds suggests it’s all ‘in the bag’ for some teams, however, pride can do strange things on a sporting ground. Today’s first game will be a classic with two teams fighting for different glory – a point each would be a fitting reward.
Manchester United host Tottenham in the early game and while bookmakers have United’s betting odds at a fairly short 1/2, the game won’t be played as easily as that. In fact, Spurs at 6/1 seem to be great value and well worth a small wager. A draw (also well priced at 7/2) could actually work out well for both sides. The single point will help stabilize Spurs in 4th place on the table while the point for United will take them to equal top place, at least temporarily.
With Chelsea traveling to Liverpool next weekend, that one point could prove to be very valuable. I’m backing a draw in this game – and those betting odds for a draw, 7/2, make this the best priced draw all day.
The late game is also full of interest with Manchester City trying to grab 4th place. They travel to Arsenal and while the Gunners are strong at home, City should fancy their chances today. Defense is no good – it has to be an attacking game since City need the three points, not one. Arsenal are safe, their race for number one is over, they are safe in the top three, so they are really just playing out the season. Apart from pride, the motivation is all with City. Arsenal are currently quoted at evens (1/1) to win with City well priced at 3/1. Manchester City to win a close game.
In tomorrow’s games, I expect Villa, Liverpool, Everton and Chelsea to have easy wins setting up a great round for next weekend where Chelsea travel to Liverpool and Villa travel to Manchester City – defining games for those four teams. The betting odds may be against us today, but I expect a few good priced wins.
