Golf Betting – The Grand Slam Of Golf

Golf betting can be a very tricky affair. Most tournaments start with 100 or more players and while they may cut that field down to around 70 at the half way mark, it’s still a tough ask. Golf often throws up winners that have surprised everyone, punters especially, but then, that’s what makes golf betting so interesting. Add to that the fact that most winners are often available at double figure odds pre-tournament, and you have a profitable betting weekend if you get your selections right.

There is one golf tournament that throws all of that out of the window – and that tournament is the Grand Slam Of Golf. This is a unique tournament that is only open to players who qualify, and that qualification is the toughest in golf – you have to have won a grand slam event in the same year. This year’s Grand Slam of Golf doesn’t feature Tiger Woods, or any of this years number one ranked players. Instead, you have Keegan Bradley, winner of the PGA Championship; Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel; U.S. Open winner Rory McIlroy; and Open Champion Darren Clarke – all vying to become the Grand Slam master for 2011.

Betting on this event is tight, as would be expected with a field of only four players. Bookmakers have Rory McIlroy favourite at 6/4 just ahead of Charl Schwartzel at 5/2, Keegan Bradley at 7/2 and Darren Clarke at 6/1. This could be a tricky two days of betting with anyone of those four in with a chance of victory. Of the four, Schwartzel is perhaps the most consistent, however, Clarke has by far the most experience in big tournaments. McIlroy has been looked upon as the new Tiger Woods in world golf, however, he hasn’t quite lived up to expectations – yet. Bradley is the most interesting as he’s still in his rooky year – that makes him dangerous since he can play with nothing to lose.

Our tip? McIlory is the most brilliant of the four when he’s on song, however, we’re wary of Bradley – he’s in form at the right time of the year, and as we stated, he has nothing left to prove in a rooky year. Bradley at 7/2 sounds like a good bet.
