Tiger Woods has been at the front of golf for many years, however, his form over the last two years has crashed, leaving him outside the world’s top fifty for the first time in over a decade. No one stays at the top forever, of course, and we all knew his time would come. The Frys Open at CordeValle Golf Club is a good example of where he is at right now. He has played some brilliant holes, at one stage stringing together three birdies with great tee shots and good putts. He then followed that up with double bogeys – a little like a weekend golfer.
In golf betting, it’s almost impossible to tip Woods to win a title. We’re not going to suggest that here today either, however, with his odds at 20/1, and with glimpses of his previous best starting to show, we’re suggesting considering an each way bet – that’s a third the odds for a top five finish. Our argument is simple – he is within striking distance at the halfway mark, he is showing some good signs, and there’s not a lot of quality competition in this event.
That last point is an important consideration when selecting bets. Sure, Woods may struggle to win this tournament, but a top five finish is well within him, and odds of around 7/1 for that top five finish look to be good value. Paul Casey and Ernie Els are the only other big name players in a position to challenge for victory, and bookmakers are quoting them both at around 4/1 to win.
Golf betting is always a difficult prospect since you are battling both the golfer, his competition, the weather and the bounce of a ball. Tiger Woods is on the slide, but you may still be able to profit from him – just back him into top five and top ten finishes – he’s going to be a great odds.
