The KLM Open is another event that has been hampered by weather this weekend. The leaders will have to return early today to complete their second rounds before organizers can determine the cut. Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood are two players who won’t have to worry about the cut; in fact, they are well placed to launch third and fourth day attacks on the leading group. They will also have the luxury of only playing one round today while the current leaders will need to complete two rounds, the second most likely late in the afternoon if the weather allows.

Bookmakers have promoted McIlroy back to favouritism in golf betting, pricing him at 9/2. Simon Dyson has won this event twice in the last six years and had a good first day and is second favourite at 5/1 ahead of Westwood at 7/1. While golf is one event that often springs surprise winners, this does look to be a match in two with both McIlroy and Westwood well placed to take this event.

We’re tipping a McIlroy – Westwood finish with McIlroy our tip for outright victory. Of the others, the 45-year-old Stephen Dodd is playing well and this does appear to be the year in which older golfers are coming to the fore. You can get 20/1 about his chances so he could make a good value each way bet. He will have to complete five holes today before starting his third round, however, he has the lead and could extend that if he continues his second days form.

Robert Rock is another who has loomed into calculations with a solid 66 on day two. At 35/1, he too could be a value each way bet considering bookmakers payout on a top five finish at a quarter the odds. If he can go around in 66 again today then his odds will tumble in to half what’s on offer at present. Still, we’ll stick with McIlroy, he’s overdue for a win, and he’s well placed to achieve that in this tournament.
