Formula 1 motor racing has been dominated this season by Red Bull, particularly Sebastian Vettel who now holds a commanding lead in the drivers championship. Bookmakers have him at the unbackable odds of 1/750 – you’ll earn more having your money in the bank for a month, even at today’s interest rates. Today’s race is in Singapore and once again the Red Bull team have dominated with Vettel on pole and team mate Mark Webber alongside him. This will make life difficult for everyone else, especially if Webber drives a blocking race. A win today will all but seal the championship for Vettel.
Behind the Red Bull team are the McLarens of Jensen Button and Lewis Hamilton, then the Ferraris of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massi. It’s rather interesting to note that the grid in today’s race is made up of team pairings all the way down to position 10. The Singapore track is a real race track that tests a driver out from start to finish. One mistake can often be measured in seconds rather than tenths of a second, so all drivers will need to be on their game.
Hamilton is the driver that may cause most concern. He has been quite brutal in recent months, and if he continues in that vein today he could cause problems for himself and those around him. If Webber does drive a blocking race, this could frustrate Hamilton into rash moves, moves that could cost him a finish. Webber is not renown as a brilliant starter, and with Hamilton behind him, this could add further interest to that charge to the first corner.
Bookmakers have Vettel a hot favourite at 1/2 to take the race ahead of Button at 8/1 and Webber at 17/2. Bookmakers are a little wary of Hamilton pushing his odds out to 10/1. While Alonso is starting back in five, he will get a good run with Vettel and Button good starters. You can back him at 12/1, good odds given his ability and the fact that his car seems to be improving with time. We’re tipping Vettel to win from Alonso and Webber.
