This weekend’s football betting looks a little ho-hum at first glance, however, a closer inspection reveals a couple of fascinating games that could be telling on how the rest of the season pans out. Manchester United finally had their winning run brought to an end last weekend while Arsenal and Tottenham are starting to find form. This weekend is certainly the moment of truth for these two.
Football betting starts with today’s early game where Everton host Liverpool. The Toffees haven’t had a great start to the season losing or drawing games that fans would have expected them to win. Liverpool have certainly started well this season and look to be honest challengers to a top four finish to the year. Bookmakers have Everton at 21/10 to win making Liverpool favourites at 6/4. If you shop around, you could back both, however, we’re tipping a draw at 23/10.
Aston Villa (4/6) have struggled a little so far, however they should account for a Wigan (11/2) outfit who are struggling to find the net. The Blackburn (57/10) v Manchester City (7/12) game should be an interesting match with the Rovers often able to topple visiting teams – and they higher up the ladder they are, the better. City have had an eventful week with Tevez causing no end of drama. City will either come looking rattled by the weeks events, or they will come out intent on putting the past week behind them. We’re tipping the later – look out Rovers, a 5-0 thrashing could be on the cards.
Manchester United (1/6) should account for Norwich (20/1) and we’re tipping Sunderland (13/10) to beat West Bromwich (40/17). The Wolves (23/15) v Newcastle (2/1) will be interesting with both sides bringing good form to the game. We’re tipping Newcastle to continue their good run, but a ticket on the draw is well worth considering as well.
You can stick with the favourites in the early games tomorrow, or save your cash for the late afternoon blockbuster between Tottenham (6/5) and Arsenal (13/5). They have both had less than stellar starts to the season so they will both be looking for a win to edge closer to the top five. A loss today could well be telling at the end of the year when European places are decided. We’re tipping a draw as neither side seems to be settled in either defense or attack – expect a few goals in this game – we’re backing 3-3 draw.
