There is a veritable feast of sporting activity on this weekend. While England may be out of the World Cup football, we still have Wimbledon, one day cricket, the Tour De France and, of course, the second group of World Cup quarter finals.
Let’s start with today’s World Cup quarter finals. With Brazil’s defeat at the hands of the Dutch yesterday, talk today centers around whether or not Germany can do the same to Argentina. The best betting odds available for Argentina are through BetFred and PaddyPower at 2.37. For Germany, the best odds for the Germans are through StanJames who have them at 3.40. Bet365 have the best draw odds at 3.30.
Today’s second game has Spain playing Paraguay. Unfortunately, the odds around Spain are short with 1.50 being the general trend across a spread of bookmakers. Paraguay on the other hand are unwanted with one bookmaker quoting them at 8.60 while the betting exchanges have them at 9.00.
The fifth and final one day international between England and Australia is set for an interesting finish. England missed the chance of clean sweep in the fourth game and the Australians will throw everything into at least restoring some pride by going home with a 2-3 loss. Can England make it 4-1 instead? BlueSq have the best prices on England at 2.20 to win. For Australia, the best price can is 1.80.
In tennis, it’s finals time at Wimbledon with the ladies playing theirs today and the men tomorrow. Serena Williams is a short priced favourite to win her match against Vera Zvonareva. The best price for Williams is 1.25 while for Zvonareva there are a number of bookmakers offering 7.00.
For the men, it’s Rafael Nadal against Tomas Berdych. One bookmaker has Nadal at 1.33 while Berdych, who has been well supported by some punters, cam be backed at 3.75 with several bookmakers. It looks to be a good final and Berdych is not without a chance here.
Finally, the Tour de France starts and while it’s certainly early days to be picking a winner, Contador is an early short priced favourite with the best price quoted for him to win being 1.57 through PaddyPower. Schlek is next best with the best quote at 8.40. The rest of the field is at double figures or longer.
