England Take On Mexico In World Cup Warm Up

With the World Cup 2010 less than three weeks away teams are trying desperately to put together their final 23 man squads. There are football friendlies being played everywhere and tonight, England take Mexico. Friendlies can be dangerous betting options since winning is not necessarily the aim. Managers and coaching staff use friendlies to try out combinations, test fringe players and to provide match time for those that have been out through injuries.

That’s not to say that every team doesn’t run out wanting to win. It’s second nature and a loss is always bad for confidence in the build up to the World Cup. When it comes to making selections, you need to be wary of some of the betting odds on offer. For example, England are 1/2 to win tonight while Mexico are out at 7/1. The draw is a 3/1 chance. Those odds are a fair reflection on the differences between the two teams, if it were a serious contest.

England should win and win well but don’t discount a draw. Tomorrow, Armenia (6/4) take on Uzbekistan (2) in a pretty keen contest. The draw at 9/4 really does look to be a good bet in this match. Armenia should win, but they are not playing their best players; rather, they are starting with several fringe players to see how they perform. This weakens the side a little and makes betting a precarious proposition.

When it comes to international friendlies, take a close look at the teams when comparing betting odds. You may be able to unearth a few surprise results at good odds.
