Cricket’s one day World Cup in India and Bangladesh has been quite pedestrian to date with the top nations really avoiding each other in the early rounds. The first real test for the top teams came yesterday when Pakistan proved to be just a little too good for Sri Lanka. Today, it’s England’s and India’s turn as they face off in Bengaluru.
With India ranked number two in the world and having a home ground advantage, bookmakers have made them very firm 5/11 favourites to win. England are a shade under 2/1 to upset the home side and while they aren’t fancy odds, should be given consideration. Statistically, India should win, as they say, ‘with a foot in the air’. But this is cricket, one day cricket at that, and anything can happen.
Virender Sehwag’s 175 against Bangladesh was a batting display well worth watching. While India have the superior batting record so far, England go into this game with a better bowling record. Swan is bowling well on these wickets and to date has only leaked out 3.5 runs and over.
India will be nervous in front of their home crowd, however, England have only won once in 13 one day internationals in India – not a great record to take into an important match like this. I don’t feel this game is as cut and dried as many people would have us think. The English side haven’t quite got it right yet, and when they do, they are capable of defeating anyone in this competition.
England are a little short at just under 2/1, however, on the betting exchanges, betting against India at 5/11 will deliver a payout of just over 2/1 – they’re better odds than the 2/1 or less on offer. Our tip – England to spring a real surprise result.
