Given recent results and Chelsea’s slip from number one to number four, this weekend’s game against Manchester United could define the season. United already hold a three point advantage, and that’s with a game still in hand. If Chelsea lose again, the advantage is a potential nine points while Arsenal and Manchester City, already a point clear of Chelsea, should move four points clear at the same time.
Chelsea seem to be playing without confidence. A win against United would certainly restore some of that confidence and perhaps turn their season around. A loss would further erode that confidence and see them heading out of the top five for the first time in many years. Online bookmakers are treating this game with some caution although the odds seem a little strange. Chelsea are at home and quoted at 6/5. United are out to 11/4, fairly enticing odds I would suggest while the draw is at 12/5. Given their current form, you can back both the draw and United and come out in front should Chelsea not win.
In other games this weekend, the draw between Bolton and Sunderland at 12/5 looks to be a good bet while Wigan at 19/10 looks to be good value at home against a struggling Villa (13/8). On Sunday, Spurs travel to a spirited Blackpool, which online bookmakers surprisingly have at 9/2. Spurs are a better outfit but I hardly see them as being odds on better – away from home. At 9/2 the win and 3/1 the draw, Blackpool look to be the best bet of the weekend.
The Weekend’s games wrap up on Monday with Manchester City hosting Everton. The Toffees have relied for too long on one or two players and while they still perform well, it needs an effort from everyone to win regularly. Away from home, they will struggle against a City side that, at times under performs, but who do play well at home. City to win with ease.
