Champions League Quarter Finals All But Over

The week’s Champions League return leg quarter finals are almost like dead rubbers. The only game that may spark some interest is the home match-up between Manchester United and Chelsea. However, with United playing at home and holding a valuable away goal lead, Chelsea will struggle to come away with a semi-final berth.

Bookmakers haven’t put this game in the bag, quoting United at odds against – 5/4 while Chelsea go into the game at 9/4. Those same odds are being quoted for the draw as well. For Chelsea, this is their last gasp. If they lose this game, then their season is virtually over. Their only other hope is to somehow claw back the big lead that United have in the Premier League. United at 5/4 at home is too good to pass up – we’ll tip a home win and a trip to the semi-finals.

The other game featuring an English team is Tottenham at home to Real Madrid. The visitors certainly played a few mind games in the first leg and came away with a big win. Tottenham would have to work hard to claw back a feast of goals – a feat that may well be too hard for them. However, a win is not out of the question.

If you like tight betting, then this game has it. The draw is at 13/5, Spurs are at 15/8, and Real marginally favoured at 8/5. We’re tipping Spurs to win, but it won’t be fancy and it won’t be enough to take them to the semi-finals.

Of the other two games, Schalke (9/5) take a big lead into a home game against Inter Milan (13/8). They surprised Inter last time out and could be the smokies in this year’s Champions League. At home, Schalke will be hard to beat and their odds are worth taking.

Barcelona (13/10) are raging favourites to take out this year’s tournament, and well they should be. They have hardly put a foot wrong so far and will take a 5-1 lead into the return match against Shakhtar (23/10). We’re tipping Barcelona to prove their favourite status by completing the job.
