The Champions League final will be played tomorrow and, for once, neither Chelsea nor Manchester United make an appearance. Everyone remembers last season’s classic that was eventually won by United in a penalty shoot out. Somehow, I don’t think that will be the case this year and neither do the online bookmakers.
This year, the final will be played between two sides that no one really considered in the betting. Inter Milan have been underdog in just about every match played this season while Bayern Munich were even lower in finals expectations. Inter will go into the final hot favourites at 2/3 to take the title. Bayern are unwanted in betting drifting out to 7/4 in some markets.
Online bookmakers are generally fairly accurate when setting odds and if you compare 90 minute football with the outrights, the margins are fairly similar. Inter are 5/4 to win with Bayern and the draw both at 5/2. The 90 minute draw, if anything, is slightly longer.
Inter Milan have played this particular tournament well and will go into this match in a strong position. Bayern, on the other hand, have been lucky to scrape through some of their matches; in fact, luck has probably had as much to do with their progress as skill – that’s not to say they aren’t skilled, however.
All things considered, backing Inter Milan at 5/4 to win in 90 minutes looks to be a good bet. Anything longer than evens in a match like this is good value and although 5/4 is only marginally longer, it’s enough to warrant a bet. Inter to win by 2.
