Bookmakers Lacking Confidence In Turkish Grand Prix

This weekend’s Turkish Grand Prix for Formula 1 cars is set to be an interesting clash between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. The first two races were dominated by Vettel, but he showed that the Red Bull team still had plenty of weaknesses after losing the last Grand Prix. Hamilton and McLaren have been patiently building and their patience paid off in that same event.

Red Bull are confident they have ironed out some of the problems that led to their demise in China. Ferrari have shown some rare form in the practice laps with Alonso topping the time sheets in the first practice round. He had a miserable time of it in the second as mechanical issues again plagued his car. Vettel’s only real mechanical issues are those he has presented his mechanics after losing control, spinning and smashing in the front end of his car. He missed the second practice session while his mechanics worked overtime to make repairs.

The two drivers to watch in this event could well be the second string drivers (although neither will admit to that title) from McLaren and Red Bull. Jensen Button put in a fast second session of practice while Mark Webber was consistent and safe, finishing with the fifth fastest time – he always seems to improve on those times come the final shoot out for grid positions.

Bookmakers don’t appear to be too sure about this race. They have installed Vettel as favourite in Formula 1 betting, but he is drifting out past 6/4. Hamilton is being kept safe at just under 3/1 while Button and Webber fight out the third line at just over 5/1. Alonso is next best at 12/1 and you can almost write your own ticket for the rest.

This won’t be an easy race to find a winner in. While the cars of Red Bull and McLaren are dominating, I wouldn’t be ignoring the Mercedes or Ferrari teams in this race, especially Nico Roseberg (20/1) in the Mercedes. He is a good driver and if his car runs well you could see him figuring strongly in the finish. Our tip – in a tough race, we’re backing Webber to beat Button and throwing in Roseberg as the long shot.
