Oh, what a difference a week or two makes. Chelsea, once considered firm contenders for this year’s Premier League and Champions League double, are now virtually unwanted by both online bookmakers and punters. They are developing a reputation for being in a winning position and then choking and throwing it all away. Their record is pretty dismal now; no wins from six attempts.
In the Premier League, Chelsea were odds on with Manchester United next best and Arsenal almost into double figures. United have now moved into favouritism with Chelsea second pick while Arsenal are breathing down their neck. Arsenal are the team to watch – they are developing a real belief in their chances to again take the title.
Online bookmakers have really taken a set against Chelsea in the Champions League. They travel to Marseilles tomorrow night, and while road trips are always tough, Chelsea find themselves at 11/5 outsiders to win. The hosts are popular bets at 7/5 while the draw is at 12/5. I’m not jumping off them just yet. The one thing they have been able to do is draw their games – and with odds always floating around that 5/2 mark, it’s always a good return. We’re tipping another draw tomorrow.
In other Champions League games, United (3/4) are at home to Valencia (17/4) tonight. We’re tipping United to win although this will be a tough game. Spurs (11/8) have a tough trip to Twente (11/5). Spurs are a little like Chelsea at times, they know how to take a win and turn it into a draw. They should bring home the three points tomorrow. In the final game, Arsenal (1/9) are almost unbackable tomorrow when they host Partizan Belgrade (28). It’s not a case of whether or not Arsenal win; it’s more a matter of by how many. Online bookmakers certainly like their chances of going a long way in this tournament – so we get on them to take the trophy now.
