The English Premier League is exactly two weeks away and fans are already queuing up to place their bets. The usual trio of Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are popular, of course, but when it comes to the ‘big’ four betting, Liverpool have lost their place to Manchester City. To make life interesting, Tottenham Hotspurs are pressing them for that top four placement.
Chelsea are favourites to take this seasons EPL title with bookmakers offering 17/10. Manchester United are second pick at 11/4 followed by Manchester City at 11/2 and Arsenal at 7/1. City’s price is surprising given it has had little impact despite having one of the most expensive play lists going around. Liverpool are unwanted in betting at present with price continuing to drift towards 20/1. They too have done little to inspire and looked to struggle despite winning their first Europa League qualifier 2-0.
The season hasn’t even started yet and betting is hot on which Manager will be the first to be given their marching orders. Chris Hughton head the betting here at 4/1 followed by Roberto Mancini at 5/1 and Roberto Di Matteo at 6/1. You have to feel for Mancini, he is always on people’s lists to be given the boot, even when he gets results.
In relegation betting, Blackpool are hot favourites to only spend the one season in the EPL with bookies quoting them at 2/7. West Bromwich are not considered to have only the one season at the top again with their betting odds glued at even money. Wigan Athletic are surprisingly next best at 9/4 followed by Wolverhampton at 11/4. Newcastle clawed their way back into the Premier League and betting expectations are that they will finish the year mid table.
Top goal scorer is another popular betting option and
Didier Drogba leads the betting here at 11/2. Wayne Rooney is second pick at 6/1 followed by Fernando Torres at 8/1. Fitness will be the key to this contest with players coming off a grueling 2009/2010 season which has included the World Cup.
The 2010/2011 English Premier League season is just two weeks away. The managers are all in place, players have almost finalised their transfers and club friendlies are being staged around the world. This will be an interesting betting season with the prices mentioned above fluctuating wildly in the first six to eight weeks.
