The big summer Epsom Carnival is here and for those interested in a value bet, I suggest you check out the betting exchanges. The popular bet at present is the unbeaten Aviate at 5/1. This is a wide open betting race and that is what makes a betting exchange all the more attractive, especially if you want to bet against the favourite.
Remember When is a quiet tip despite still being a maiden. She has firmed from 8/1 to 7/1 and raced well when 4th in the Irish Guineas. Her blood lines are strong so the distance shouldn’t be a problem. However, she hasn’t learned to win yet so must be taken on trust.
It’s hard to go past any horse that Dettori rides and although only having one start (for a win) Sajjhaa looks well bred for this distance. She is third favourite at 6/1, just ahead of another lightly raced filly in Ramoush (11/2).
Aviate and Ramoush will be starting from the inside and the danger is being caught on the fence midfield at the serious end of the race. Sajjhaa will start from 9 and should be able to find a trail to the turn. With these fillies having so little form to display, picking a winner could be difficult. We’ll plum for Sajjhaa.
If you get onto the betting exchanges you can find some of these a good half point longer in betting. With a good staking plan you could back two or three of the fancied runners and still profit so long as one of them greets the judge first. This is a strange race this year. The revealed form to date could shine and we’ll all be hailing a new hero in Aviate, or one of the longer priced horses will shine over the extra distance. Of course, it’s this great unknown that makes betting on horse racing so interesting. Tomorrow we will continue our look at Epsom with the feature race, the Epsom Derby.
