Can you imagine a Tour Championship without Tiger Woods? Can you imagine any golf tournament where Woods has failed to qualify? This year’s championship is without Woods and betting through betting exchanges has been keen. There are a number of outcomes hinging on this weekend’s final PGA event of the year, not least the position of world number one.
Phil Mickelson has only to finish first or second in the thirty player field and the title is his. He may gain a reputation for being a ‘gunner’ if his current form continues. He has already played in three events where he could have grabbed that coveted number one title only to fail on the last day.
Bookmakers have Mickelson around 7/1 to win this weekend while you can get as much as 8/1 through betting exchanges. Matt Kuchar is the form player going into this weekend’s final game with bookmakers posting him at 11/1. You can get 12/1 through the exchanges although the general trend is closer to the 11/1 to on offer by the bookies. Kuchar is a popular bet for a top five finish as well.
Dustin Johnson and Steve Stricker are also well fancied at 10/1 with bookies. They are similarly priced through betting exchanges although of the two, Sticker appears to be the more popular.
In FedEx Cup betting, Kuchar is well fancied at 5/2 from Johnson at 4/1, Stricker at 6/1 and Mickelson at 10/1. Kuchar is the form player and if he carries that form into this tournament will be hard to beat. He is certainly better value through betting exchanges even when taking the exchanges cut into consideration. Will Mickelson get to number one? I won’t be backing him to.
