Wimbledon is all a-flurry as excited desert to the top four mens tennis players to trek to the outside courts. What’s got them all excited? A little known but very exciting Aussie teen by the name of Bernard Tomic. He started the tournament as a qualifier and has taken all before him. His biggest scalp to date was the highly fancied and well respected fifth seed Robin Soderling. The question now being asked is whether or not he can go all the way – a big ask for an inexperienced 18 year old.
Tomic’s next match is against the in-form power-hitting Novak Djokovic. This could well be a danger game for the number three seed. Tomic is playing with an ‘I’ve got nothing to lose attitude’. It’s paying dividends and producing results. Tomic and Djokovic are also hitting partners so they do have an idea of each others games – this could well be an exciting game to watch. Bookmakers have Djokovic at 1/6 to win with Tomic at 13/2. Tomic is good, he’s exciting to watch, and is sure to be a star of the future – this year, we’re sticking with Djokovic to progress to the semi-finals.
In the other quarter-finals, Andy Murray is 1/8 to defeat Feliciano Lopez (37/5) – Roger Federer is 1/5 to defeat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (21/5) – and Rafael Nadal is at 1/6 to defeat Mardy Fish (11/2). I would hold off on placing any money on Nadal at present. He is undergoing tests on a sore foot which may well have him withdrawing before his quarter-final game.
In outright betting, Djokovic leads the market at 2/1 from Nadal at 33/10 and Federer at 7/2. Murray is looking good at 11/2 and you can have any other player at 50/1. We like the look of Murray. He performed well in Paris not that long ago then won at Queens. He is in form and this is the one Grand Slam event he really wants to win – at 11/2 he’s good value to go all the way.
